28 February 2008

Thamesteel (TSL) achieved another major milestone by achieving a record of producing 17,275 tonnes of prime billet with 189 heats during the second week of February 2008. This is by far the largest weekly tonnage achieved in the company, with lowest power on times of 34.7 minutes per heat and 375 kwh per billet ton. A record 96 heat sequence of 875/ton cast billet (108t/hr) was achieved for one tundish life, also during the week. This easily breaks the previous record of 80 heats set in November 2007. In the rolling mill, the company also achieved record figures of 16 rebar and 10.8mm rods for a new weekly tonnage total of 12,732 prime. Prime yield was excellent at 97.25% with availability at 78.6%. This excellent plant performance provides very strong evidence that the dedication, diligence and determination of the whole TSL team is capable to deliver consistent performance from the recent plant investments, together with continuously improving the high output levels. A message from the Board of Directors: “This is a definite indication of good team work and coordination at TSL, which must continue to grow. TSL team has full support from ATG and we are deeply interested in the progress and success of the company. We hope TSL team will make concerted efforts to secure consistency in performance and high productivity in the future as well.”
